Ann went to New Zealand in 2014 to do a PhD in Cognitive Psychology studying the use of drawing as a tool for encoding memory. After 5 years in Dunedin she moved to the North Island and somehow manages to have a job and make art.

In Ireland Ann was part of a family of sign-writers, and has always practiced art, even through blacksmithing, before moving to Aotearoa.

Ann has bounced around a lot of disciplines always exploring, from ceramic and sculptural art, to painting and print making.

Ann will be working across New Zealand, Ireland and Japan in 2025 producing art.

Explorations

Ann's current practice explores the relationships that women have as immigrants with icons, memory and identity.

Her latest work is rooted in a respect for and understanding of motherhood, matriarchy and the male gaze in women's lives and the search for connection in an increasingly shifting global diaspora.

Alongside immersive nature paintings seeking to situate the viewer as part of nature as a remedy to the disconnect in increasingly disconnected lives.

Growing up in Ireland in the 80/90's informs my identity and art. The Irish language, culture, and lenses feeds much of my art. I am exploring the indigenous Māori worldview in Aotearoa New Zealand through immersive nature experiences and art.
